On September 12, 1976, the NBA welcomed the Brooklyn Nets to the league as an expansion team. The Nets, who played their home games at the NYU-Marathon theater in Brooklyn, were led by coach Jack McMahon and featured players such as Rick Barry, Wesley Matthews, and Gerald Wallace. In their first season, the Nets finished with a record of 18-64 and were among the worst teams in the league. However, over the years the Nets have made significant progress, and in the 2016-2017 season, they qualified for the playoffs for the first time in 17 years.
Since moving to Brooklyn in 2012, the Brooklyn Nets have been among the most successful teams in the NBA. Led by stars like Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, and Brook Lopez, the Nets have made the playoffs in the last three seasons, culminating in a first-round victory in 2017.
